World Urban Forum is the most renowned and the largest conference devoted to the creation and implementation of urban policies worldwide, organized every two years under the aegis of the United Nations. The purpose of the meeting is to gather people from all over the world and exchange experiences and ideas within green transformation.
Healthcare, as one of the inherent parts of the cities, is a vital element of the successful green shift. The role of healthcare and its impact on the climate appeared as the main topic experts discussed during the debate "Green Hospitals - towards a green transformation" organized by United Nations Global Compact Network Poland with Philips during the 11th session of World Urban Forum in Katowice.
During the discussion, the leaders of the scientific, legislative, medical, and business industries talked about the possibilities of implementing already available and sustainable solutions in healthcare. Representatives of local government organizations also had the opportunity to present their position. The debate led to the development of joint recommendations that will redirect healthcare to green and sustainable.

The most significant improvements in the Eco-design have been implemented in terms of energy efficiency and weight reduction of products and packaging, although attention is increasingly paid to hazardous substances, longer life span, re-use (recovery) and recycling in all segments. These improvements are included in eco-passports, granted to products that meet specific Eco Design requirements.
Maximization of the life of our products and solutions while minimizing the use of new materials and resources and eliminating waste. We do this with smart digital solutions, product returns, refurbishment and recycling. In a circular economy, products, parts and materials are maintained at the highest utility and value at all times, circulating between customers. These production loops maintain value while minimizing waste and extracting scarce resource reserves.
